For our third course, completed in 2001, the Nicklaus design team borrowed from some of the game of golf’s original layouts. Think open fairways, smaller greens and Scottish brogues and you’ll have a pretty good idea of the old-world flavor of the Tradition. Designer Steve Nicklaus has laid out a charming links-style course in the tradition of the storied fairways of the British Isles …nine hole “outward,” nine holes “inward” back to the clubhouse. The greens were re-built in 2006 adding much undulation as well as Champion grass, like our other two courses. The results are that although the Tradition gives you large, open driving areas, your approach shot is critical as the greens are now the “teeth” of the course, like so many of the game’s original courses.
Check out the layout, and you’ll see the Tradition has fewer bunkers than the other Ibis courses. The only thing “un-British” about the Tradition is the warm and sunny South Florida weather!
